The Raleigh City Council agreed Tuesday that it will implement Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Measures on February 15. Raleigh’s water source, Falls Lake, currently has 30.6 percent of its water supply pool storage which translates to 110 days of supply.

Restrictions

The following measures are included under Stage 2 Water Conservation measures:

 

The first violation of the Stage 2 ordinance carries a fine of $1,000. Any recurrence of the violation may result in interruption of water service. A two-week grace period, in which the initial fine will be $250, will be observed when Stage 2 restrictions are enacted.

The City Council also approved a recommendation from its Public Works Committee to direct City staff to study the possibility of imposing a temporary surcharge on new water connection fees. The study will be reported back to the Public Works Committee. The Council also agreed to reconstitute the Water Conservation Task Force by April 1.
