Veterans History Day Open House, Raleigh Elks Lodge 735

Published Apr 9, 2008

The Raleigh Elks Lodge in cooperation with the National Veterans Freedom Park (NVFP) are pleased to announce their upcoming Veterans History Day Open House, at the Raleigh Elks Lodge, 5538 Lead Mine Rd.   The NVFP and the Elks are official Collecting Partners with the Veterans History Project, sponsored by the American Folklore Center at the Library of Congress.   There are over 20 million veterans living in the United States today, and every day we lose 1,600 of them.   Motivated by the urgent need to collect the stories and experiences of veterans while they are still among us, the United States Congress created the Veterans History Project.   As a collecting partner, the NVFP and Elks are serving under Public Law 106-380 to collect and preserve audio- and video-oral histories, along with documentary materials such as letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and home movies of America ’s veterans and those who served in support of them.   The staffs at NVFP and Raleigh Elks Lodge are pleased to be proud supporters of this project and have opened the Lodge doors for this event.

On Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 10 am to 4 pm , at the Raleigh Elks Lodge, located at 5538 Lead Mine Rd , Raleigh , NC ,  the NVFP and volunteer staff of the Raleigh Elks Lodge will be conducting veterans’ interviews.   There is NO cost and interviews are open to any veteran of all services, to include the Merchant Marines, regardless of war- or peace-time service.   To sign up for an interview timeslot, please email DMilidonis@nationalveteransfreedompark.com, or call (919) 449-5440.
