Purpose: Walking Out God’s Plan

Published Nov 20, 2007

Proverbs 20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water: but a man of understanding will draw it out.

This scripture is found in what is called the “book of wisdom” and there is a wealth of wisdom in this one scripture alone.  Now that we have said that man is a spirit which possesses a soul and lives in a body, we can now begin to dig a little deeper on the subject of the spirit of man after he is born again and recreated in the image of God, perfect, holy and blameless by the power of the Holy Spirit and the blood of Jesus.  Once death reigned in man; now after he is born again the law of the Spirit of Life reigns in man.

Romans 8:2 for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus have made me free from the law of sin and death.

Now let’s consider the wisdom of God, in your spirit dwells the Holy Spirit.  God now resides in the born again Christian.

I Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

II Corinthians 4:7 but we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the Excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

The wisdom of God is spiritually discerned, it is hidden from natural understanding.

I Corinthians 2:14 but the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Now that we have the Spirit of God we can know the things of the Spirit because God has revealed them to us by his Spirit.

I Corinthians 2:10 but God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Back to my text in Proverbs 20:5 the Hebrew lexicon defines the word counsel and reveals what’s being said here. The lexicon says that the word counsel means: counsel, advice: consultation; purpose, project, plan, design; wisdom, deliberation.  When we were born again every one of us received a Devine purpose for our lives. You no longer have to walk in the dark about what you are suppose to do in life and what God has for you. You could read that verse like this. Purpose, projects, plans, and designs are in the heart (spirit) of man like deep water: but a man of understanding will draw them out.  Your purpose and plan that the Almighty God had divinely designed for you is already in your Spirit!  It is already in there!  All you have to do is draw it out.  That is what I will attempt to show you how to do.  Understand this, in your spirit dwells all the richness of God, the residue of heaven and the Royalty of Glory, Jesus Christ! Everything that you will ever need your spirit already possesses.  Understanding how to draw it out is the key to success in Christian living.  Jesus has given us all the material we need, all we have to do is build it.

Building your Purpose

1.       Praying in tongues takes the supernatural and brings it into the natural realm.

Praying in tongues is a supernatural ability given by the Holy Ghost to believers. Jesus said to his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they were infused with power from the Holy Ghost.  The baptism of the Holy Ghost is relevant for today’s believer.  Without it you cannot fully step into the fullness of the plan that God has for you, because praying in tongues takes the supernatural and brings it into the physical realm.  Consider the Apostle’s ministry; it did not even begin until they were baptized in the Holy Ghost.  It was a supernatural event that propelled them into the plan of God.

I Corinthians 14:14 for if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Praying in an unknown tongue activates your spirit and causes it to begin the process of “drawing it out”.  When you speak in tongues you are taking the supernatural and bringing it into the natural realm. If you do not speak in tongues then you keep the supernatural locked up in your spirit, and there, the mysteries of your purpose will lie dormant and unfulfilled.

I Corinthians 14:3 for he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; HOWBEIT IN THE SPIRIT HE SPEAKETH MYSTERIES.

Are these mysteries things that will never be known and we just do this and that is all there is to it, just speaking in tongues? No! It serves a purpose!  When you begin taking the supernatural and begin speaking it into the natural realm you begin to build and construct the purpose of your life by causing it to be manifested in the natural realm. Consider 1st Corinthians 14:4.

He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself;

The word edifieth here means “to build”; when you begin to pray in tongues you begin to build yourself. What do you begin to build yourself into? You begin to build and construct the purposes, plans, designs and projects that God has already put into your spirit.  You draw out the plan of God for you life. Many people have only scratched the surface of what God has for them and most have never even began to build what God has for them. I am fully convinced that people can fully step into what God has for them if they begin to practice praying in tongues. You must pray with purpose and faith which is very effective.

James 5:16b the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Jude verse 20, but ye, beloved, BUILDING UP YOURSELVES on your most holy faith, PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST.

2.       Your spirit through the Holy Spirit will make intercession for you with groans that words cannot express.

When you begin to pray in tongues and begin to get deeper into the things of the Spirit, your spirit will begin to make intercession with groans that words cannot express. When you reach this level of praying in the Spirit you are setting some things straight.  All circumstances and all situations begin to fall into place that will help you fulfill your Devine purpose. Even evil traps and strategies that have been put into place are rendered powerless.

Romans 8:26-28 likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God, and we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Notice verse 28 and the context it is in.  The “all things work together” comes after the praying in the Spirit with groanings.  Now we as Christians have only seen a glimpse, just some things have been working together.  But there is a place praise God where all things will work together for good toward the purpose that God has called us to when we begin to pray and allow the Spirit to help us in our infirmities, with groanings that words cannot utter. I must mention that when you begin to pray with such fervor in the Spirit you will get leadings from the Holy Spirit because you spirit is active and very sensitive to the Holy Spirit so when these promptings begin just obey and do them for it is the will of God.  Also at this level of praying in the Spirit you are praying out your future, the things that you are called to do, and have been selected to do, you are praying them out, and drawing them out into the realm of the natural.  Remember my text in Proverbs 20:5.

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water: but a man of understanding     will draw it out.

Once you begin to understand what is in your spirit and what it takes to draw it out, and begin to do those things that will draw it out you will begin to see things in the natural realm change and fit into a plan that has been ordained from the highest level in heaven for you to perform, and performing this plan a crown will be rewarded.

3.       SPEAKING out the PLAN OF GOD that is in your spirit by FAITH causes it to be RELEASED in the natural realm because it already EXSISTS in your spirit.

Philemon 6 that the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Romans 4:17 (as it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, AND CALLETH THOSE THINGS THAT BE NOT AS THOUGH THEY WERE.

Abraham was called according to God’s purpose to be the father of many nations, and he begins to see that in his spirit after God had given him that purpose.  I am sure that he went around and began to say about himself what God has already said about him and the bible says that he believed God and he didn’t staggered on the promise of God through unbelief but was strong in faith giving glory to God that if he promise that he was also able to perform it.  Faith in the very thing that God has put into your spirit and what has been given to you will cause the very thing that is your spirit to be manifested into the natural realm.  This power is resident in all believers!

Ephesians 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward WHO BELIEVE, according to the working of his mighty power,

Colossians 1:9 for this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you,  and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

This is the wisdom and spiritual understanding given to men that your words have an important role to play in fulfilling your purpose in this life.  We should guard them like they are hidden treasures, and not to be so reckless with them, for they will direct your life into the path that has been ordained for you.  For if you want the plans and purpose of God to be fulfilled in your life then you must begin to speak it out!

James 3:2-6 for in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect (mature) man, and able also to bridle the whole body.  Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm whithersoever the governor listeth.  Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.  Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

Proverbs 18:21. Death and Life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Notice the illustration that James uses to describe the tongue, a bit and a helm, which directs horses and ships.  Look at your life and the thought patterns of your mind and you can see where you are and you can determine where your faith and words have been directing you life.  It is easy to change the direction you are going in by repenting and putting your faith into what God has called you to do and speaking it out.  By renewing your mind to the word of God, changing what you are saying and believing and you will be surprised at what begins to change in your life. What direction do you want to go in?

4.       Meditation: The Key to the Power of Faith

Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

Now that I have laid the foundation of what speaking your faith does, I want to go just a little bit deeper into what power you posses when you start combining speaking and meditation.  Speaking and Meditation focuses your faith in a strategic method that will cause the Plan of God and the Kingdom of God to be established in the realm of the natural which is on earth, but first let me lay just a little more foundation to support this.

Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the substance. I want to stop right there and say that faith is a substance that comes from God’s Kingdom. It is the very thing that he gave us to accomplish his will on earth, which is to establish his Kingdom. Jesus taught us to pray by saying “thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10. Notice this isn’t a request but a decree! We are not to request that God’s Kingdom to come, but we are to declare and decree his kingdom and will on earth. He also said that “it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” Luke 12:32. So if he taught us to pray out the kingdom and that the Father gave us the kingdom, where would that kingdom be? Let’s see what Jesus said about this.

Luke 17:20-21. And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the Kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said The Kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, lo here! Or, lo there! For, behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.

There is a lot of teaching on the Kingdom of God that Jesus did while he was on the earth, more than I would like to get into right now but the point that I want to bring out is that the kingdom is within you. The kingdom has purpose, projects, plans, and designs which are in you because the kingdom is in you.  Faith is knowing and is convinced of this and that is why you can decree and declare “thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth” that is a man of understanding, that is drawing it out!  Let’s look briefly at faith.

Ø      We are to live by faith Hebrews 10:38. Now the just shall LIVE by faith: but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Ø      We are to please God with our faith. Hebrews 11:6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Ø      We are to walk by Faith. II Corinthians 5:7. (For we walk by faith, not by sight :)

Ø      We are to protect ourselves with our faith. Ephesians 6:16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Ø      We are to obtain promises by our faith. Hebrews 11:33-40. Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, OBTAINED PROMISES, stopped the mouths of lions …

Faith is nothing more than believing that you have received the Kingdom of God within you in all its fullness, and that you can draw from that kingdom anytime you desire by believing.

Mark 9:23. Jesus said unto him, if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believe.

Hearing the Word of God establishes faith if it is believed.

Romans 10:17.  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 12:3. As God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Hearing the Word of God causes faith to come, and it is God that gives faith, but when it comes where does it go?

II Corinthians 4:13. We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Romans 10:10. For with the HEART MAN BELVETH unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Faith is in the heart which is the spirit of man. Now when you have this in place and learn how it operates you can focus it to draw out of the Kingdom of God that resides in you, by believing, speaking and meditation.

Joshua 1:8.  This book of the law (which is the word of God)  shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Meditation here means to; murmur, to mutter; to ponder or to think about; to focus ones thoughts on.  To murmur or to mutter means to speak the word of God.  It also means to revolve in the mind and to imagine. When you begin to meditate on the Word of God you start giving yourself to it and the life of it will produce in your life.  If you begin to meditate on what you believe in and speak what you believe in, your faith becomes strong and your way becomes prosperous.  Now I need to give you New Testament so you can see this was practiced under the New Covenant.

I Timothy 4:14.  Neglect not the gift THAT IS IN THEE, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. MEDITATE upon these things; GIVE THYSELF WHOLLY to them; that thy PROFITING MAY APPEAR to all.

Meditation is the step between hearing and doing the word of God.  The purpose of meditation is not to get something in you it is to get something out of you. Something that you know that is already in there and you need to get it out. Combining speaking and meditation with praying in the spirit will cause the Kingdom of God to be drawn out of you and the purpose that God has given you in that kingdom within the body of Christ.  This is the goal of the Christian to fulfill his purpose and destiny in this life.

II Timothy 1:6. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Meditation stirs up and draws out the gift of God that is in you so your profiting will appear when you begin to think on what God has given and you speak out what God has given you. It starts stirring up inside you and begins to move on you, and joy begins to bubble up and manifest; and peace begins to flood your spirit, this is a manifestation of the Spirit and the Kingdom of God being drawn out. Only sitting before truths constantly, and not letting it slip from your remembrance causes it to be produced in your life.

Romans 14:17.  For the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

So begin to draw out today God’s perfect plan and will for your life.  Pray in the Spirit, speak out your faith by decreeing God’s Kingdom and meditate on every good thing that is in you in Christ Jesus and you will find yourself reaping the harvest.
